Biography

One of the successful pawnshops that I recently opened for a client in Detroit was purchased for a major television show.

I am very proud of the fact that what I set up was good enough for Les Gold and his great show!

I started off as a teenager, working in the family jewelry and pawn Business. While working for the family’s business I became an expert in diamonds and gems, a master jeweler, and an authority on fine watches.

I opened my own  business selling jewelry, custom work for Saks Fifth Ave, Lord-Taylor, Bloomingdales, JC-Pennys, Sears, Target, Montgomery Wards and other major dept stores.

Then, in 1992, I opened up a pawn shop called “NORMANS JEWELRY LOANS” in Southfield,  Michigan (one mile outside of Detroit).

When I opened up NORMANS JEWELRY LOANS, there were only 2 employees. By 2007, it grew to 15 full time employees, with millions of dollars of sales each year and with over 2 million dollars of loans per year.

My current goal is to show others how to succeed, as I did.

From How to Open a Successful Pawnshop:

My first year I pawned over one million dollars! That was unheard of back in 1993. I was also getting plenty of press. For some reason they found my store to be very interesting, and throughout the years the press did many articles about my store.

I made the front covers of the business section of the Detroit Free Press, as well as the Detroit News, and other major newspapers. CNN did a feature on my store, and many radio stations interviewed me. In the Detroit area, I was known as the “Upscale Pawnbroker.” If you needed a large loan—I was your go-to guy.
